Back-to-School: 5 Quick Ways to Feel More Confident on your First Day

Hi there! School is so close to starting again and you can ignore it, OR you could start to prepare yourself for the new school year. I’m favouring the latter because I really want my junior year to be as amazing as I can possibly make it. You might feel a bit nervous on your first day, so here are a few tips to up your confidence so you can start the year off on a good note.
1. get enough sleep

When you don’t get enough shut-eye, you don’t feel your best and you don’t look your best either. To keep from feeling sluggish, get to bed early the night before so you’ll look refreshed and feel the same. If you’re up for it, you could also do a face mask and pamper your skin so it looks extra nice, as well.

2. lay out your outfit the night before

Nothing’s worse than rummaging through your drawers and your closet in the morning with a few minutes left until you have to leave your house, trying to figure out what to wear. Most people try hard to look cute on their first day, so I’m not saying you should conform to their standards just to feel better about yourself, but if you feel like it, put a bit more effort in and plan what you’re going to wear. That way, your morning will be super smooth and you’ll feel as if you have your whole life together, even if it is just first one day.
The same goes for packing your bag and the non-perishable bits of your lunch before, too. While teachers won’t necessarily care if a zit of yours shows through, they will take notice of how you forgot to bring your binder and pens to class on your first day.

3. wear a bold lipstick

This might not work for everyone, but it’s a trick that has definitely helped me a lot in the past. Keep the rest of your makeup pretty minimal, but add a bold pop of colour on your lips. I find that most people tend to go heavier on the eyes and just slap on lip balm or something, so you’d stand out with the bold lip.
Try not to let your lipstick wear you, so instead, just focus on smiling (or as “smizing” as Tyra Banks says) to let the people staring know that you know that you’re wearing something different and you don’t care what they think.

4. Maybe even heels too?

Everyone dresses up a bit on the first day of school and unless you’re still in elementary school (in which case, wear low wedges ;) ), heels are 100% a good idea. I wouldn’t suggest going to school wearing 5-inch stilettos, but maybe some chunky sandals instead of your typical flat. There’s just something about that little extra height that makes me feel like I can own the world, you know? Maybe it can help you feel that way, too.

5. Stand/sit up straight

Having good posture is so important and my mom has bugged me about my slouching ever since I was young. Just try to remember to push your shoulders back and tilt your chin up slightly when you’re sitting or standing because it makes you look a lot more sure of yourself than if you were slumped over.

  1. Consider wearing comfortable dress that fits to you. Just like wearing the sexy bodycon dress or if you are a sporty type, wearing your favorite football team t shirts could be a cool one.
